MORE TIPS ON SPAY/NEUTER & HOW TO HELP  FERAL CATS

  • Prices and programs for spay/neuter programs can vary widely. Please contact each
    program directly to discuss specifics.

  • Be sure to ask if there are any other charges in addition to the spay/neuter cost. Some
programs may include the rabies vaccine in the price of the spay/neuter, other programs
may charge a separate fee for the rabies vaccine . Note: Rabies vaccines are required by
law for all cats, dogs and ferrets over 4 months of age, per Florida Statute 828.30

  • If you are a feeding stray or feral cats, and need information on humane trapping and how
to implement Trap-Neuter-Return, or need helpful advice on taming feral kittens, please
visit our EDUCATION page or visit Alley Cat Allies website.

  • Feral kittens who are caught and tamed at an early age will be adoptable, and these
resources will help you succeed. "Ruby Tuesday", pictured right on the day she was
rescued, is a feral kitten whose caretaker caught her at 5 weeks of age. Her brother
Morris (pictured below Ruby) was caught a few weeks later. Both were tamed, altered &
successfully adopted--together--to a great loving indoor home!

National Resources:
Question: I have been feeding
cats for a while and they are
reproducing.  What should I do?

  • As soon as possible, you must
    trap the cats using humane
traps and have them spayed or
    neutered. Contact local groups
to find out if there is a low- or no-
    cost spay/neuter clinic in your
    area. (Trapping feral cats
    sounds complicated; but its
    actually a simple and rewarding
process, and it doesn't hurt the
    cats.)

  • Once the cats have been
    spay/neutered and vaccinated,
return them to the place where
    they were trapped.

  • You and other volunteers must
    provide ongoing food, shelter,
and care to keep the feral cats
    healthy and safe.

  • Check with local shelters to see
if there is a food bank operating
in your area that can defray part
    of the cost of food.
